The reason I decided to get into dentistry – and it was a long road. It was different. I graduated high school, I went to Texas A&M. I actually got an English degree the first time. I came out, I started working not in the dental field, nothing in the health care field. I actually sold insurance and I worked in some school districts, and I just knew I wanted to get into health care field, and I was thinking about med school for a long time and went back, and I got another degree in Biology from University of Texas-Pan-American. And then, it wasn't until that very last year that I was applying to med school that I started meeting all these dentists.
So I started shadowing them, and I loved it. I like working with my hands, and I get to do that every single day and just help people with my hands. The most rewarding part about being a dentist is just helping people on a daily basis and giving them new smiles, giving them a reason to smile. We see patients in all aspects and in all dental conditions and health conditions and to brighten their day. And the best thing is whenever a patient comes back to me, it's, "Doc, you gave me reason to smile again," and that's really, really fulfilling.
Dr. Marcus Montalvo decided to become a dentist because the first time he shadowed a dentist, he fell in love with the broad range of ways that dentistry can improve patients’ lives. Dr. Montalvo graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas A&M University, a Bachelor of Science in biology from the University of Texas–Pan-American (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley), and a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Texas A&M College of Dentistry. He has been a valuable part of the Sabal Dental team since 2018.
Dr. Montalvo treats every patient in his chair as though they are family, and he only recommends treatments that he would have done on himself. The part of his job he loves most is changing lives by creating beautiful smiles. Dr. Montalvo feels privileged to work in a profession where every day presents a new challenge, and every new challenge overcome is a chance for someone to smile again.
Dr. Montalvo’s professional accomplishments include:
