Using Dental Implants to Replace A Tooth

This was – and we really didn’t have a choice with my gums … had receded. Some of the teeth had to come out, but the situation was I didn’t need dentures and I didn’t need anything major, but there was no alternative other than to go with the implants, which I’d never been through that before. So, that was … we talked about. She explained the whole thing to me and I thought, Well, okay, let’s … advantages, disadvantages. Let’s go with it.

As it turned out, it was the right thing to do. I’m totally satisfied with these implants. They’re just like real teeth. I can’t tell you how happy I am with … some of the implants are already there. I’m waiting on a few more. It should be in here in a few weeks. They’re just like real teeth. They do exactly what it is they said they were going to do, and I can’t tell you how happy I am, as opposed to, like, dentures or something, which is also an option, or a partial, but we decided to go with the implants. I’m totally satisfied. They’re just like real teeth, just like real teeth.

It’s just the way the thing … they functioned as a team. You know, the people that work for Dr. Sperry. Everything was, again, real seamless, real seamless. Which is, that’s nice. That’s what … no hiccups. You don’t want any problems, you know, or miscommunication or anything like that. So it all worked out good. Worked out real good.

Replacing Old Dental Work

Dr. Sperry has an extensive treatment plan, and I have had some very old crowns replaced. It’s nice because there were some fillings in one that were the old silver, and it kind of takes away from your smile. The crown was worn. I mean, we’re talking, it’s been there probably 40 years. The filling was starting to crumble. It really needed a crown probably to begin with. Back in the day, they weren’t so quick to do that.

They certainly, of course, numbed everything, the dental assistant did, and then she was always cognizant of how I felt and made sure I, Dr. Sperry made sure I wasn’t in any pain whatsoever. She actually did two at one time because they were next to each other. That wasn’t planned, but that’s what we decided at the last minute, and it wasn’t any different than having one done. She finished up by putting the permanent crowns on, and I could not be happier. I feel wonderful. I don’t worry about that it might crumble. Everything’s smooth, everything’s good. I chew better. It’s just an all-around good-ending experience.

Protecting His Teeth While He Sleeps

I had a couple of incidents where I had cracks in my fillings, and so I had to come back and have more crowns placed. And so I talked to Dr. Sperry about what was happening, and she talked about the age of my teeth and the care of my teeth and also the fillings. And I said, “Is there anything I can do to prevent this?” And she said, “Well, it seems – I don’t know if you grind your teeth when you sleep?” Which I’m pretty sure that I do. But she says, “One of the things we can provide for you to protect your teeth into the future are night guards.” So I said, “Sure, let’s talk about that.”

So she explained everything about it. I decided to try it. And I actually have two night guards. I have a set that I wear at home, and then I work in a hospital where I’m on call for 24 hours, so I have another night guard that I keep at work. So I don’t have to bring one night guard back and forth. And they’ve been amazing. I have had no more problems since the night guards. They work real well. I don’t even notice that I have them in. And so that was a great decision on her part to recommend it and of course on my part to accept it and let her do it. And it was an easy process, not a problem at all. And the night guard itself works real well for me.

The quality of care that I receive from Dr. Sperry is just unsurpassed. She’s extremely professional, knowledgeable. She’s very good with her hands. She’s gentle. And as a health care professional myself, I understand the technical difficulties of doing health care and how sometimes, some of the things you do are difficult. And she makes it all look easy. She’s very calm, very supportive, and she does it right the first time. I have never had a problem. She’s done several procedures for me. And I’ve had need for dental work since I was a kid, and it’s not been any better than this. I would say she’s probably the best dentist I’ve ever had in my 60 years here on this earth. So yeah, she’s the best. She’s the best.

An Easy, Comfortable Experience

They keep me educated on how to take care of my chompers. Of course, Dr. Sperry’s done a root canal. Like I said, I’d always heard horror stories about root canals, but that was like, bam. It was great. There was nothing to it, to me anyway. So it’s just things like that, and they don’t push it on me, but they always let me know when there’s a product available that might make my teeth look a little nicer or if there’s another service they can provide, they always let me … But like I said, they don’t push it on me, but they let me know it’s there.

I guess, over the years, deteriorated. It was one of my back … of course, my back teeth had the root canal, and it was starting to hurt, starting to cause pain. It wasn’t getting any better. I thought I’d just be in … Not knowing, I thought, Cavity – here we go, we need to fill a cavity, or something like that because it turned out being a root canal. And so she took it over. And like I said, she made me very comfortable through the whole thing. And she didn’t scare me with it, like, “Oh, you’re getting a root canal. Better get ready.” No. “Get some of those pills from the doctor, that’ll calm you down.” No, nothing like that. I mean, she just made me feel very comfortable about it.

It was completely taken care of. Nothing has popped up. I’ve had no more nothing. And that’s been … The root canal, I’m thinking – and the crown, there was a crown involved – it’s maybe two years ago or something like that, or a year and a half, and I’ve had no issues with it whatsoever.

Restoring His Smile At Sabal General Dentistry

I’ve had a lot dental work, like I said, as a child, and even as a young adult and in the military. For years, my crowns … I never had crowns, but I had a lot of cavities that were filled. Through the years, when I reached my 50s – and I’m 60 now – I got to the point where I started to have a sensitivity to my teeth, and I tried everything you could try to treat that. Then I had some cracks, and then eventually I actually had some broken … the fillings broke away. That’s happened before, but more recently I had a couple that the fillings actually came loose and broke, so I came here to have her treat me. I think she did two crowns for me, two to three, I’m not even sure. I don’t remember now, but she’s done a couple, at least, crowns, and I’ve had absolutely no trouble with them.

So yeah, that’s the experience I’ve had with her, with the crowns. Dr. Sperry talked to me about the future that I might have if I don’t do something to treat the problems that I had with the cracks and the care that I needed to do. Then, of course, the crowns were semi-emergency because I had some pain with them, so she let me know that that was the immediate thing that I needed to do, was to do the crown. I’m so confident in her opinion that I didn’t even question her. I just trusted her, and I have not been disappointed. Initially, when I had the crowns placed, they obviously felt a little different, but after a couple of days I didn’t even notice a difference.

In fact, it was so much of an improvement that I felt like I had new teeth. The thing I noticed about Dr. Sperry that is not true of all dentists, she doesn’t let you leave her chair until you’re happy with how the crowns feel. Many dentists will go through a little time period where they try to make adjustments after you receive the crowns so that they feel good, but I’ve never had anybody take the time to make sure you’re extremely comfortable, that your teeth fit together well, and much quicker than any other dentist I’ve ever had. Within a day or two, I feel like I have my old teeth. I don’t feel like I have something artificial. That’s another reason why I keep coming back here.
