I have been going to Sabal dental for over a year now. I went in today to have some Crown work performed. Jolene did an excellent job explaining the procedure and what was going to be done to make me feel completely relaxed. Inlays and onlays are used to repair damaged or decayed teeth. An inlay is more suitable for the chewing surfaces of your teeth and typically fits between the cusps. An onlay is considered a partial crown that covers more of your tooth’s surface. Your dentist will determine which is best for your smile and oral health needs.
An onlay is used when we only need to cover the cusps of your tooth, while a crown completely covers the tooth’s biting surface and dental structure above your gumline. Less of your tooth structure is removed for an onlay, so it’s often the preferred restoration option. An onlay should last just as long as a crown too.
